Here is an article by Wired News on the matrix auctions. These types of auctions are very prevalent on ebay.com and other auction sites.
Since May, 2003 the "eBay Watch Dog" team here at MatrixWatch.org has helped ebay to eliminate over 30,000 of these scam auctions, which has also led to the cancellation of nearly 500 scam-seller accounts.
