Hi
I'm new to the forum, so if this post is in the wrong section, Mods please remove.
This is a nice little laptop scam that backfired on the scammer, he ended up paying import duty and tax.

This is C-C-C-Classic! From the dates on the emails, this is all fairly recent!
I am trying to find the part of the story where the scammer actually opens the package. Is there a link for any info surrounding that?
We have dealt with quite a few eBay scammers here at MW. It would be neat if these guys dropped by for a chat.
I've sent all the info off to Bob Sullivan (MSNBC Reporter). He is the reporter who does all the matrix/ebay scam stories, and he has written all the articles dealing with our campaign here. This one is a gold mine for him. I hope that we get these guys some media attention, because the story is so wild. Of course, we all know that two wrongs don't make a right, but there is something in these avenging stories that attracts crowds (including some of us :) )

weirdid,
How did you find out about Matrix Watch, and what led you to post that link here? It really is a great story, and it is somewhat relevant to a few occurances that our "eBay Watchdogs" have had over the last year.

I've been on ebay.uk for about 6 months, selling under one ID, and chatting in the ebay boards using another.
One day i had a look at the mobile phones, in minuets i found so many scams, and saw newbies bidding up to £300 ($550) for nothing more than a link, i have been giving them "unoffical" help for some time.
I did a google to find more info on these scams, and found this fantastic forum, its the best forum for infomation i have found.
The link to "scammer gets scammed" was posted on ebay.uk Q&A board.

weirdid,
I have been thinking about how fast the matrix scams are growing in the UK, and I feel that MatrixWatch.org could easily expand our efforts out there. I really love the UK culture, and it would be cool to have some members from out in that direction.
If you have any ideas, feel free to start some new threads. I am willing to put the capabilities of our site behind a UK-focused effort, and a few of our members may join the idea as well.
We could also use some help in our "eBay Watchdog" department as far as the UK is concerned. The team here has been working hard here in the U.S., and it would be great to make a difference elsewhere as well. One of our head 'watchdogs' even came up with a nifty program to help with the effort.
All the communication on that issue can be directed to the "eBay..." forum.
Now... Back to the scammer getting scammed...

Hi
I'm more than happy to help in any way i can, i've made contact with "marcinary" and will be reporting his lists.
Ebay.uk is very slow to respond to reports, an auction needs at least 12 hours to run, to stand any chance of being removed, and very many reports are just ignored.
Because ebay.uk are so slow, a handfull of members have had to take unoffical action, its not the right way to to do this, i know, but it does save newbies getting ripped off.
i'm sure i could find a few good people that would be willing to help.
cheers

Great. We will also mention some of these problems in our forthcoming story that will be soon available via the "Ebay Matrix Scam" link in the Main Menu. This write-up will become the definitive story of eBay's reaction and response to the matrix scandal. If you have any info, please feel free to start a thread about it and we'll consider including any other interesting details in the report.
There have already been some reports published on this issue (e.g. Wired, etc.), but nothing like what we will have.
Stay Tuned...

You can also click the link that was in the first post of this thread. It leads you to a synopsis of the whole story so that you don't need to read through 80+ pages on a forum.
