Is there a better definition of a pyramid scam than this? How exactly are matrix sites differnet?

http://www.crimes-of-persuasion.com/Crimes/InPerson/MajorPerson/pyramid_clubs.htm

"An illegal pyramid promotion is a plan by which a person gives consideration (usually money) for the opportunity to receive money that is derived primarily from a person's introduction of other persons to participate in the plan rather than from the sale of a product by the person who is introduced into the operation."

People there like to throw around the word "invest" because that makes it sound like they realize they can lose money. However, most every investment has some kind of backing to it, a product, the well being of a company, etc.

Read just about any forum. What are the newest members always shouting about...WE MUST PROMOTE!

Even if a gift, you have to buy something to receive it. How is that a gift than? Why can't I put my name at the bottom without buying anything like any legal sweepstakes?

Is there any matrix supporter than can tell me exactly how this isn't an illegial pyramid. Ok, you use the word straight line pyramid....thats just a flattened pyramid.
