:( Hey, I need help here... (It might be too long, but please read!)
Recently I bought a Matrix website from a web designer for $500, and planning to advertise and make some money like gotmatrix.com.

First, I would like to explain that I do not mean to rip people off (whether you think i'm lying or not). several month ago, I purchase an Ipod at ebay, which actually is a LINK, www.gotmatrix.com. At that time i didn't even know what matrix is, so I go to GM and purchase an ebook for $100 which i though i'm buying an actual iPod.

At Gotmatrix, there are FAQ page which explain that their site are perfectly legal and whatever, and this is how I get this idea to start my own matrix website. I was only 18 and going to college soon this summer, so I thought that this matrix site may get me some fund for college.

After I purchase my matrix site, but before I advertise, I found this matrixwatch.org, which tell me that matrix site are illegal and soon to be collapse!

I don't want to rip off anybody, and don't want any trouble. So I decide to hold my matrix website and begin to reseach over the internet to see whether matrix site really illegal.

I hope you guys understand my situation now, as I'm the owner of the website but DID NOT have anyone join. I would like to know what can I do with my matrix site now, I don't want to just shut this site down and lost $500.

How did you pay for that site? contact your bank or whoever. Contact the seller also see if he'll accept a refund.

There are a few people who think that matrix sites are legitimate. So, I won't knock you for not knowing. However, even if you take a $500 hit, thats the best case scenerio for you.

If you stay open for a few months, get a couple hundred sales, and get sued, you lost your $500, plus whatever gifts you gave out, plus your going to have to refund all people's monies (worst case scenario).

I pay the seller through paypal, the seller send me the information of the website though email. He also send me a CD's with the website back up. He had add the tracking number for the CD's to paypal, I don't think I can get refund...

By the way, is it legal to build such website and sell it to other owner? If Gotmatrix get in trouble and sue by someone, will the designer of the website get in trouble?

1. Contact seller. Tell him that you didn't realize the questionable legality of matrix sites before you purchased the site, and would like your money back. Say the risks involved are too high for you to want to venture into this business model.

2. Contact paypal. Give the details on the info on the purchase and explain to them that you didn't realize the questionable legality, etc.

The webdesigner will not get in trouble. I think website design falls under freedom of speech. You might want to check your own laws though if your not in US.

The site itself is not the problem. Its the business associated with the site that is questionable.

Good luck.

I live in New York, I also have another Matrix website but it already has some members when i bought it from a other owner. And i'm receiving negative email from the member that previous owner made. Now the website is under my name but I didn't do anything, I sent email to the previous owner but he never reply me. I'm affraid i'll get it trouble for what the previous owner had done, get in 40+ members. What should I do with this website? May I should it down now? I don't want to get in trouble...

This is the suggestion that you should really listen to. Go to the Attorney General or the Consumer Protection agency for your local state government. Explain what the situation is, and tell them honestly that you didn't know whether or not these sites are legal because you were led to believe that they were from other sites. Then show them your sites and ask them for an official decision on the legality of the sites. Explain that you were led to this site that argues that matrix sites are just ponzi schemes. They will be the best source to answer your questions for you. They will most likely also be abky to help you deal with the customers from that one site. At least with this course of action, you will not scam anyone, and you will get an official government answer to the legality of the matrix in your state.

Check out the section in our forums entitled "Former Matrix Owners". Perhaps some of the stories there would give you some perspective. Once you figure things out you may want to post your own story there as well. Other aspiring matrix owners could learn from these stories that it is not a wise move to launch a matrix site.

asdffhjglj,

Here is a reason you should NEVER buy an existing matrix, even if it is shown they are NOT ponzi schemes.

You are paying money to buy somebody elses liabilities. So, if somebody cycles, your stuck having to pay them. Yes, the money might be good...

But, what is to stop the previous owner from opening up a new line days before he closes, fills it with a bunch of fake information, leaves the bottom two spots of the $4000 computer open, and wait a couple months for 2 more people to buy the spots, or for him to buy them himself. So for a couple hundred bucks investment, your stuck having to pay him $4000.

So, good luck with that.

Hi, dreamer
I realize that I should purchased any matrix site, but it's too late now. So do I have to refund existing customer in order to shut down the website?
