I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this so please move it if it's not.

I recently bid on an auction (#5110962431) and lost. I bid $2500 and got outbid (the final bid was I think $5500 but was still under the reserve). I then received an email from someone claiming to be the seller and giving me a 2nd chance offer for my bid of $2500. I was really happy because the basketball cards in the auction were worth around $20,000-$30,000 and I could make some good money. I told the guy I would take them but then got a little suspicious (too good to be true). I looked at the auction again and noticed that the seller's name was John but the guy emailing me was Eduard. I decided to ask the seller (through Ebay) if he had sent me the offer. He said that I was the 2nd person that asked him that and that no he didn't send the offer.

I then got a response with the "seller's" payment information. He has a UK address and wants me to send the money via Western Union Money Transfer service. Knowing now that he was trying to scam me, I asked why he had a UK address and a US phone number. He said he was visiting his sister in the UK. HA! Right!!

Does anyone know what I can do? Where can I tell Ebay about this (and if I do, will they care)? Maybe some of you UK'ers can give me ideas on what I can do to this scammer to get him arrested or something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

One option is the do what the folks over at the "something awful" forums did. :D

Another option is to contact eBay about this guy. Our eBay team would be more savvy about who to contact though.

Yes, your post was in the correct folder.

Unfortunately, ebay doesn't have a complaint form that EXACTLY matches this description. This is the best thing I can find.

Go here:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/questions/avoid-fraud.html

Then scroll 3/4 the way down the page till you see:

"Need to report suspicious or fraudulent activity?"
"Contact us. "

Click "Contact Us".
