The U.S. Governement just made 150 arrests (http://www.out-law.com/php/page.php?page_id=webfraudsterss1093872479&area=news) in an effort called "Operation Web Snare".
Among their targets were:
On-line crimes [including] multimillion-dollar swindles, on-line auction scams, identity theft, business-opportunity frauds, and the piracy of software and other copyrighted material.
The government oftentimes piece cases together with the information that they receive from reports filed through the IFCC or Attorney Generals' offices. We would never know, but it could be the case that many of our own reports here helped to lead to some arrests.
Those who are scammed on the internet must continue to be encouraged to file formal complaints to the government. We could help them land a big fish!
