With all the hype and hoopla about the free-ipods craze and all the ways to get around the system of filling out free offers, it appears that marketing firms have wised up. Another marketing firm called EMarketResearchGroup.com is giving away TV's, ipods, etc that follow the same 'sign up for so many free offers and get referrals' ... however with a new catch in their terms and conditions (if you read them):
(e) Remain an active member for the duration of the time it takes the sponsors of all the offers you've completed to report back to us of your successful completion of their offer. Typically, it takes offer sponsors up to 8 weeks (but usually 4 - 6 weeks) to report to us that you have completed their offer.
These conditions above are mandatory for a member to receive their gift. Once you have completed all the requirements above, we will ship the gift to your mailing address. Please allow around 4 - 6 weeks for shipping.
Adding this clause (which is not present in the free-ipod TOS), which most people probably won't read because most people don't read what they are signing up for, ensures they will drum up a ton of business for their clients, and hardly ever give away any free items. Having to keep the membership until the company verifies you signed up guarantees that you won't cancel early, so that loophole seems to have disappeared. The clients still get referrals, the marketing firm gets a referral credit, and an unwise consumer can get nothing!
Anyone reading this should remember to take time to read FAQ's, Terms and Conditions, etc that are on any offer to get something 'free' or at a price that is just too good to be true ... when you don't understand what you are getting into, they can terminate your account:
G. TERMINATION. If a Member's account is terminated by eMarketResearchGroup, eMarketResearchGroup may refuse to 'approve' a gift if such gift were earned in violation, or after violation of this Agreement or were otherwise unlawfully obtained by the Member. If your account is terminated by eMarketResearchGroup, You may not re-enroll or join under a new account unless formally invited to do so by eMarketResearchGroup.
I got the above quotes from the terms and conditions link at:
