Nirvana,
You may want to post more than just a few words to get conversation moving on this topic. Perhaps some info on how you found this site, or what it is all about.

Ok, here is their FAQ:
http://www.clearoutclub.com/questions.aspx
Q. What kind of products are available?
A. A wide variety of products (THOUSANDS of products from HUNDREDS of manufacturers) are available. We provide non-members an opportunity to browse a very limited selection of sample items at sample prices. The variety of products available to Club members is incredible – you name it, it is probably available.
Q. Why such low prices?
A. Our staff constantly search the world for the very best buys on a wide variety of products, which is why the prices are so low. Most of the products offered are overstocks, liquidations, surplus merchandise, etc
Q. What condition are the products in?
A. Almost all the products being offered are NEW (not used or refurbished) and come with a full manufacturer's warranty.
Q. Do the products come with a warranty?
A. In the very unlikely event you experience problems with any products, rest assured that you are in most cases covered by a full manufacturer's warranty. Many of the products being offered are from large manufacturers like IBM, Sony, Black & Decker, etc. and the manufacturers will stand behind their products should you have a problem during the warranty period.
Q. How can I place orders for something I want to buy?
A. Orders can be placed by phone, on-line via the Internet, and by mail.
Q. Can I order by credit card?
A. Unfortunately we do not accept credit card orders due to the overhead associated with credit card processing charges, and pass these savings on to our Club members.
Q. How soon can I expect to get my purchase from the time I place an order?
A. That depends on the shipping option you choose. For faster shipping methods you can expect your purchase to arrive within a 1-2 business days, for slower methods it might be 1-2 weeks.
Q. What is the refund policy?
A. Most merchandise ordered can be returned, however a minimal restocking fee may apply. Please note that certain items, such as software, cds, and dvds cannot be returned once they have been opened.
Q. Do you accept international orders?
A. We welcome international orders. Once you start ordering, some extra shipping and handling charges may apply for orders sent overseas, however these are usually quite reasonable. Countries also typically charge import duties on incoming products – you can check with your local government for specific duty rates. Please note that free promotional items cannot be shipped to addresses outside of the United States.
Q. What do I receive with my membership?
A. With your membership you will receive the Clearout Club Buyer's Guide, your complete Club shopping guide. As a member, you'll also receive a year's worth of FREE updates of the Clearout Club Buyer's Guide.
Q. How quickly will I get my membership materials?
A. By joining the Club online, you will become a Clearout Club member immediately. Once you enter the information required for membership, full ordering details/instructions/etc. will be sent to you electronically.
Q. Are there any other fees besides the membership charge?
A. No. The membership fee is all you pay for the duration of your membership, which lasts for one year.
Q. Are there any obligations after joining the Club?
A. No. We do not require you to do anything or purchase anything once you are a member of the Club.
Q. How long does membership last?
A. Membership lasts for one year.
Just basing my opinion off this FAQ I think its probably legit. The only reason I'm questioning it because you have to be a member to buy stuff? Somthing fishy about that.
There are alot of businesses that buy products at way below wholesale and sell it below wholesale. Fashion businesses do this frequently. Clothes stay in style for a short period of time. After that they need to dump what they have for the next trends.
Maybe I oould be of more help if you eleborate on why you think this is a scam. i'm not saying its not, but just looking at it quickly it seems too good to be true, but some businesses can sell stuff at dirt cheap because they get it at dirt cheap.
Here are my gripes about the site.
1. You need to be a member to buy stuff.
2. They give you details once you become a member.
3. I'm too tired to finish this.
mercinary
November 24th, 2004, 10:43 AM
What is the cost of becoming a member?
My initial reaction would be to state that this is likely not a scam. It is probably similar to overstock.com. There are a lot of goods at a low cost, but it really isn't high-quality stuff. Like their FAQ states...the stuff they sell is refurbed, or overstock / liquidation stuff. That isn't to say that you couldn't find good products there.....
I'd be interested to hear from someone who has joined the site, and even more interested to hear from someone who has received products from them. For now, this one goes under the "legit - not interested" folder in my mind.

Ummm...I take back everything.
1. Offer expires tonight at midnight. Ok. But look at the source and offer really expires using a javascript code.
2. Payment is not secure.
3. They want your checking account information??? Ummm...I don't think so!
They've been in business for 10 years:

It may be true that they have been in business for 10 years, because they may have just started the internet side of this business. I still think its misleading, but might explain that away ..
My opinion is that I don't think its a pyramid/matrix or anything along those lines either, but more like what merc said that its probably like an overstock.com where they 'guarantee' you a savings, now the savings might only be 1% or 2%, but its still a savings that they pass on to the consumer... (after paying a membership fee)

The business model is done. However, I oersonally will not do business with a company who's only form of payment is to give up my routing numbers on my check on an unsecure page.
And they promise a free monitr or iPod with purchase of membership. Its a legit business model, but something doesn't add up for me, and since they don't accept paypal I'm not going to investigate further

There are many busineeses who adopt this business model. This is how $.99 operate. They get old unsold products for maybe 10% original cost, sell it for 20%, double their money and give their customers an outrageous discount. So, its possible.
All a scam artist needs to do is get your checking account information, keep it for a couple of months (so you don't suspect anything), than all at once, with all the accounts they have transfer all funds to an overseas account and start hiding.
Plus, its christmas time, so I know people are thinking about this. Even if it was legit and legal, why isn't it a secure page? They claim it is but there is no https

I Save Club Is Not Really An Online Store - Online Store
I found an online store called I Save Club, www.isaveclub.com. There is a preview area for non-members with great products and great prices. Since I needed a new printer the one time $19.95 fee was OK because the price they advertised for a new Hewlett Packard printer was only $37.00 After I paid the fee and joined, when I logged in as a member and went to the members area where I could buy it, all there was was a list of auction sites and tips for how to bid. There was also a list of website where you can go and search for products like pricescan. Their advertising is extreamly misleading and you get virtually nothing for your money other than a list of well know websites. Don't waste your money joining this club, use Google, its free!!!
It appears that both these sites actually advertise using hoaxed MP3's, MPG's, etc that are available on Gnutella and Kazaa. I guess you download something thinking its one thing, and really its an advertisement for one of these sites.

No One is going to give you a free ipod, worth over $200.00 and a top selling item, just because you gave them $20.00
They would just wave the $20.00 membership fee and sell you the ipod for some reduced deal price if you joined up.
If it was true wouldn't you have heard about it from like a few hundred others by now?
c'mon a Free ipod?

For you info their is an address mentionned on the site, so the fraud theory about emptying your bank account would be suprising. Still the google option sounds much cheaper to me and probably just as good as paying 20$ for cheapo information about how to get stuff cheap.

Kory,
Thank you for your interest in Clearout Club. We have been in business for
over ten years now. In fact, you may have seen some of our advertisements
in major publications. Items are available at such low prices due to
situations such as overstocks, liquidations, bankruptcies, etc.
All of the free items are brand NEW, and come with a full manufacturers
warranty. For example, in regards to the iPod model, you have your choice
of the new 20GB model, or the new Mini in any color. The Apple iPod is
brand new, comes in the factory sealed box, with all factory included
accessories, and comes with the factory warranty. As mentioned, the same
situation applies if you choose the free Samsung 17" LCD Monitor, or the
Sony Wega 27" TV.
The $19.95 fee covers one full year of club membership. During your club
membership there are NO other charges, nor are you obligated to make any
purchases or extend your Club membership at the end of the one year period.
The free items are available due to the fact that we are sure that once you
see the low prices, you will most likely purchase items.
When you order an item only normal shipping charges will apply, and in most
cases you can specify a shipping company and method. For example, if you
want to order an item and request that the item be shipped via FedEx Next
Business Day service, then the shipping cost would be the exact same
shipping cost that FedEx would quote you to ship that item from one of our
sources warehouses, which are located in the US, to you.
Please note that actual shipping costs are calculated at the time your order
is placed, however again, if you are wondering "Are the shipping rates
inflated in any way", no, they are NOT. Again, you will pay the ACTUAL
shipping cost, nothing more.
The free items are shipped within one week, however most other items are
shipped within 24-48 hours after an order is placed. Please note that you
WILL be responsible for the charges associated with shipping the free item
to you, however the shipping charge is minimal. For example, if you choose
to receive the free iPod and the shipping method is normal postal mail then
the shipping cost may be as little as $5-$10, depending on which state you
reside in.

Wallbanger. Thanks for your enthusiasm. I see you did a standard whois search on this scam artist, and found out that the address leads to a Mail Boxes Etc location. Unfortunately we do not allow personal information to be posted on the forums for several reasons. Most of all, the information cannot be verified as correct, and secondly, we do not want to create a liability for ourselves. You are welcome to post anything else about this site, as long as it does not get personal.
Now, on to the topic at hand.
I find it quite amusing that the site actually called itself clearoutclub, because that is exactly what it dit. It "cleared out" your bank accounts.

January 9th, 2005, 03:44 PM
I'm sorry, but it seems to me that whois data is considered public information. I was only attempting to aide people who may be drawn to give this "company" their money.
If anyone is interested in the information that was posted, do a standard whois search on the domain. Just G*ogle for "whois search" if you have never done this before.
P.S. By calling this website a "scam artist", I believe you may have liabled yourself in an attempt to avoid another post doing so.
Thanks

Wallbanger, hi
All the info you posted is in the public domain, but we have to go by the advise we receive from the forum owners attorney.
In my opinion if approx 95% of the sites members are just donors, to the 5% that cycle, then its a scam.
If the only income is from new sign-ups, again its a scam.

While I don't know much about this (and that doesn't keep me from posting anyways) it seems logical that if a scamemr opened a site they would probably use fradulant information. So, my posting info that is public doman without verification, you could be helping people annoy an innocent person who has nothing to do with the site.
But, if I were you, I'd call that mailboxes etc place and see if you can find out who purchased the box and for how long they have picked up their mail there. They most likely jumped town already and used a fake id, but...

A check of Register.com indicates that the site is registered to Virtual Technologies in Chicago, run by J*** W*****. The company does not seem to exist. There are 33 J*** W*****s in Chicago - a very generic name. The phone and fax numbers provided for Virtual Technology are Ameritech Illinois prefixes, but neither is a valid number (disconnected or no longer in service). Also, it is interesting to note that the fax line provided is a cell number. The address for Virtual Technologies is located at a Mail Boxes Etc. box in Chicago.
Pretty shady.
I dont believe that Mail Boxes Etc. will give out info freely about its users due to some privacy policy, but the info could be subpoenaed in court.
If i were you, I too would go to the Mail Boxes etc with a baseball bat and wait for J W. :P

I believe this site is a scam. And if not a scam it is very misleading.
First of all, they advertise a membership for $19.95 which expires at midnight.. from what I've read about them at other sites that advertisement goes on continuously. Also they offer a free ipod/flat screen/sony tv in exchange for your membership. That is not free! Once you join to claim your free gift you click on a link that takes you to another site where you can get the gift provided you complete the offers, in other words if you buy other things. Also their site is misleading, in that it gives you the impression that they have stock to sell. They don't have anything! Their members area consists of a page with internet addresses to sites where you can buy or bid for items, most of which you can find easily if you do a search.
I stupidly joined this site, and I hope they don't clear me out!
Again, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE!

If its a p2p thing, once the file is out there with your name, they may not even be able to eliminate all the instances of it. Thats the unfortunate part of the p2p architecture, that many people could've downloaded it, and whoever did, will offer it to someone else.
Regardless, the ebay auction above for clearoutclub.com as posted by anakin can be reported at this link:

One interesting thing that I have noticed, going over this forum, is that it appeares this "limited time offer" has been in existance for as long as the company has existed , 10 YEARS(or a few months depending on how big of a sucker you are." Anyway, it's not a question that they are a scam, but obviously not anything they can't get away with. It just takes a few dumb people to make a scam like this work. :nono:

I have to agree with krazy gi that there is no question this is a scam ... but it does depend on how you look at it. A real good point that was made is that the 10-year running limited time offer ..... it goes to show that you, the customer, are not getting any sort of deal if you do your homework ... its important to do your homework before investing in garbage like this ..

it just allowed me to make an account with a fake address, fake phone number, and fake bank account number (using a real routing number) granted, they may not actually try to contact the bank until the morning, but you'd think it'd check more than just the routing number, like maybe check which region the area code is in and zip code and compare it to the routing number's region. I put a florida routing number, with a michigan phone number and a california zip code (and random numbers/letters for all other fields except for E-mail, which I used my incoming spam E-mail address for) I'd post the username and password but it could be considered misuse, and as before mentioned it sends you to the freeipod site which isn't free (ever had a free lunch? :-D)

I think he was just trying to make a point that there doesn't seem to be anything validating the data when its entered. I would think something this big wouldn't count on a person hand-validation each new user ... (although I guess its possible)

Yes, I understood his point, got it right away, and yes, the error-checking (what error-checking?) is pathetic.
Funny, I haven't had a merchant account in over three years, but I always thought that paying for the ability to take e-checks cost as much or more than paying for an actual c/c processor? Heck, a virtual gateway is easily coded and works better.
I'd steer way clear of a site that only takes checks... sorry to all of those who have paid the price... more than once...

[FONT=Georgia][SIZE=4][COLOR=Indigo]I just had to respond to the comments on the Clearout Club. I went ahead & joined to take a look at it & need to tell ANYONE looking.....DO NOT join this. This is one of the most expensive lists of dropshippers that I've seen anyone try to sell. These people are not wholesalers, dropshippers, or even have any products. They are selling a list of other companies ( expensive ones at that) for $19.99. This is a SCAM!!

This is hilarious! I wonder exactly how many people paid for the pathetic bit of information listed on their members' area?
Just another person(s) selling absolutely nothing...
Our staff constantly search the world for the very best buys on a wide variety of products, which is why the prices are so low.
yeah, right... LOL

Yeah, I just sent 20 bucks to these guys. To tell the truth, I thought it looked a little shady and too good to be true, but I sent them a money order, so $20 (well actually more than that with the conversion from Aus $'s) is all they'll be getting.
But you know now I am pretty pissed off and I hope they get done.

Hey all!
Yep the clearoutclub.com site is still up and running, scamming people out of their hard earned $... Cool to see that this site continues to give a heads up to some would be victims tho! These idiots may be laughing all the way to the bank for now, but eventually they are going to piss off the wrong person and just might find themselves crying all the way to the hospital instead! KARMA WILL CATCH UP TO CLEAROUT CLUB! Anyone have any ideas how to shut down this operation?
Peace- G

Okay, if you check the website on the 11th, it says the last day and time for the special $20 price is at 11:59. If you go back on the 15th, it says the 15th. It does this all the time. I put bull hockey in the numbers slots for the checking accounts and the secure site lock DID NOT COME UP. They don't have a phone and have not responded to the better business bureau. They have one unresponded to complaint!

Hey guys I have a question. I signed up for this website earlier today, and unfortunately found this site after that. When I put in my info the site took me here:
http://clearoutclub.com/joinerror.aspx?t=Some+billing+information+is+incom plete.++Please+correct+the+error.&g=1
I was just wondering if my info actually got sent away because I read that most of you guys got emails and such, and I never got past this.
BTW, I only signed up because my brothers friend told me how great this site was and how he could be me the $90 PSP, so I decided I would just do it myself. Normally I'd never do this. And I contacted my bank and they put a note on my account, is this the right course of action or should I cancel my account just as a safegaurd?
Thanks.

I'd definitely get in touch with your bank's fraud team and see if they can help you. The first 20 days are crucial in getting out of these matrix scams, so be dilligent.
Glad you found us, albeit a few moments too late. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
