I received this email today:

How's this for a deal: test cutting-edge products, then keep them for life!

Our panel needs new testers to receive a new PlayStation 2 - yours to
evaluate and keep.

Sony has redesigned its ultra-popular PlayStation 2 with a slimline look
that still plays the latest games and DVDs and also has built in Ethernet for
online gaming. Santa's little helpers will gladly help evaluate this
keepers gift!

Try it out, let us know what you think, and keep it!

Upon inspection, it is another one of these "sign up for a bunch of stuff and get free stuff" deals. Check out the terms:

How does this work?

Consumerincentivepromotions operates an incentive promotion program where consumers can receive a gift after fulfilling the participation requirements.

The cost of the gift is covered by the offer sponsors (such as AOL, Columbia House, Discover Card, and others), and once you complete the participation requirements, we will send you the gift with free shipping!

Companies spend a lot of money in advertising trying to recruit users to their services, why not turn the tables and reward the consumer with that money?

3 Easy Steps to Get Your Gift

To receive the incentive gift for this promotion ('Video Game Console') you must complete the following steps:

1. Register with your accurate contact info (such as email & postal address) when requested so we know where to ship your gift.

2. Complete a total of 6 sponsor offers.

The required sponsor offers must be completed in the following sequence: Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 1' group, Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 2' group and Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 3' group respectively. Our sponsors cover the entire cost of your gift along with the shipping & handling fees for us to ship the gift to you.

Examples of sponsored offers may include free trial offers, credit cards, free quote requests and other free or low-cost offers. Please note that there are typically a variety of offers presented for your selection - some offers require a small purchase, while others are free trials or free applications which does not require a purchase (and can be cancelled without obligation).

To 'Complete' an offer, you must sign up, get approved for and activate (where applicable*) the sponsor offer, while following any instructions and terms that are provided.

*For Discover Card offers, the card must be activated by making a purchase, balance transfer or cash advance in order for the offer to be considered 'completed'.

When our sponsors report to us that you completed their offers, your account will be updated accordingly. This will generally take 4 to 6 weeks depending on the offer.

3. After your account has been updated with the required number of completed offers, log into your account and access your mail-in address confirmation form.

The redemption web site is at http://www.consumerincentivepromotions.com/redeem.htm - Once you confirm your mailing address, we will send your gift! Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery of your gift.

Note: Consumerincentivepromotions is responsible for all Gift fulfillment and all inquiries/questions (such as regarding your gift status) should be directed to us for the fastest resolution. You can reach our Customer Service Department by clicking here. Please do not contact offer sponsors regarding your gift status.

The requirements above are specific for this incentive promotion ('Video Game Console').

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there any cost?

It is free to join Consumerincentivepromotions as a member.

What's the catch?

There is no catch! Our advertisers and sponsors cover our costs for your gift as well as the shipping and handling. To get your Gift, simply complete the requirements outlined above. Once you complete the requirements, we will ship the gift to you free of charge!

Why are the sponsors paying for the gift?

Sponsors such as AOL and Columbia House are doing this to drive users to their web sites and services. For the sponsors, underwriting the costs of the gift is a good deal because this is a marketing promotion for them that works.

Why are you doing this?

We are offering this incentive promotion with the help of sponsors to drive users to our web site and to build a way for consumers to earn rewards. Companies spend a lot of money in advertising trying to recruit users to their services, why not turn the tables and reward the consumer with that money?

Do I have to redeem my gift by a certain date?

Yes. You must complete all the requirements within 90 days after your original date of Consumerincentivepromotions registration.

How many free gifts can I get?

Per our Terms and Conditions, there is a limit of one gift per household.

What if I don't live in the United States?

Sorry, but the Consumerincentivepromotions incentive program is currently available ONLY in the United States.

Is there anything else I should know?

I signed up for this offer and totally qualified for the $250 gift card which is another of their offers. But gee, BMG didn't confirm my membership according to CIP, and after TEN emails to CIP: NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER!!!!!!! This has all the earmarks of a major internet scam and they have no phone number listed anywhere and no names to contact. Someone let me know what's going on here. Maybe they will respond after 90 days!

Even if they did confirm it, I've heard people that say that their redemption page said something like: "You have not redeemed the proper number of offers. Offers still required to redeem: 0".

I signed up to receive a free XBOX...I completed the required offers and my account was marked as such. I had to print a gift redemption form and mail it in. That was over a month ago... The website says I have completed the offer but they haven't received my gift redemption form. I have sent numerous emails to the help desk-- no reply!!! What do I do? I knew it wasn't going to be "free". But I spent about 80 dollars fulfilling my obligations to sponsers.

Well....

#1: Check the Terms of Service. Make sure to read the whole thing. You'll be looking for information that suggests how long it takes to get your gift once your redemption form is in. I bet the amount of time is in months....

#2: Once you know that, you will have to wait until that period is up before you can do anything.

#3: Once that time is up, write a formal letter to them (via snail mail), and tell them your situation. Give them documented proof that your offers are complete.

#4: Wait 2-3 weeks

#5: If not response (or an unfavorable response), write a letter to your Attorney General, as well the Attorney General from their state. Send Consumerincentivepromotions copies of both letters so they know you have contacted the Attorney Generals.

#6: Wait...
