I have not been able to access Matrix-News.net for a few days now. Matrix-News was one of the largest forums on the internet for matrix sites, and they have either closed down permanently, or are having issues with their server. If you have any info on Matrix-News, please post it here.

watchdog,

I've been a senior member in the matrix-news forums for some time now, and was active up until it appeared offline...

There was no indication of jumping ship, though there never is. I hope it's their server; I liked those forums...

Hopefully the site'll be back up soon.

They did have a large archive of posts, and it was one of the most active forums within the matrix community. They were the only forum to rank above Matrix Watch on the Google searches.

I heard from an unofficial source that Matrix-news.net was going to shut the "forum" section down for some remodeling, but it seems the whole website was taken offline. I also read somewhere although I forget where, that they were looking to change their ISP but there was a problem with the "domain" staying the same...I haven't gotten confirmation on either of the stories but that seems to be the rumor.

I believe also that they were looking into becoming a .com instead of a .net

Well the real story is that the SERVER that was hosting the site shut down on them and they lost just about everything. I guess they didn't have a backup to the site so all is lost. The Admin from that forum was on another forum explaining what happened. The company hosting just up and left and left them with nothing. They are contemplating opening the site back up but it seems it was a little too much work the first time and they don't want to have to go through it all again. They most likely will not be back according the owner.

The forum in question is the "Matrix-Sites" forum. Here is the URL to the thread, but the forum is now private to members only:

http://www.matrix-sites.net/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=350&

The Matrix-News.net Admin stated over a series of posts that:

"My hosts server where Matrix-News was being hosted. It has been down for like 4 days now, and it seems that it is down for good. They will restore my website, but ALL of the SQL data is lost. This means that the list of sites, votes, merchants and furthermore more important; ALL forum data is lost. THis includes users and posts alike...

I might start over, but I am thinking to just sell whatever is left since it is basically worthless. The most important chunk of the site is lost forever so I don't know how that will turn out.

If you are interested, you can track the progress of the downtime here: [http://forums.cyberpixels.com/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=2541]. It's a thread about the server(Dienu) my site was/is on.

This is a huge loss. I enjoyed Matrix-News.net. Through the lawsuits, the arguments, and the upheaval of the matrix community, Matrix-News never banned me or any of the members here at Matrix Watch from their forums.

Just FYI, the MatrixWatch.org database is backed up on a daily basis, and the server has a backed up copy as well, updated weekly. I planned for a shutdown even before I launched our site.

Anybody have any more updates on this?

I haven't heard any more updates, and that is what is strange. These guys charged up to $350 a month for banner advertising, and they just disappear without an upheaval within the community? It is the same thing that happened when all the data went missing from the EzExpo forum one day. I wonder if there is something happening behind the scenes. Both matrix-news.net and EzExpo forum were the two largest archives of the matrix concept's history. Was it in someone's best interest to get rid of all that evidence? I don't know for sure, but it does make me wonder when a huge archive of sensitive data ends up missing and hardly anyone says a word.

I heard it was because of the hosting. They went down and lost everything. It would have been to much work to restore everything. And all the forums and usernames were gone to. It looks as if the site tried to get back up at one point but couldn't.

Watch Dog...I understand your concern, but I do think you tend to speculate a little to much.

Hehehe i agree!

We have been thru this topic on our forum.. Matrix-News admin showed up as well to engage in the topic.. his forum went down due to his host provider... He claims everything was lost and he does not have the time to re-open it... Besides the fact... so what his site is down he never updated his site to begin with... there were banners that ran for months and i doubt people kept paying again for that?

He didnt rob anyone you neeed to chill... Its those people that would be complaining about the banner issue and I havent heard of any complaints. So why do you bring it up..

I decided to post what really happened here because I was appauled by all of the rumors I have read on this and other forums. The website was down due to the crash of server hard drive that the website and all database data was stored. It is partially my fault for not backing up the databases after I reformated my PC, but I would expect all hosts to backup once in a while. It appears that mine did not. The information in the posts that were lost is priceless. I considered starting over and creating a brand new website but decided against it for several reasons. First of all, matrix sites are as good as dead. New ones are opening left and right and none of them get any buisness. With the whole legal issue with Watch Dog and websites gettings, matrix sites are bound to become illegal. Everyone including myself cannot deny the fact that there are losers in this buisness. I knew from the very begining the risks involved in investing in a matrix site and I was an unsatisfied customer at numerous websites. I only cycled at a website twice (at matrixsale.com) and only recieved one of the items I cycled for. That's 1 win out of about 15 loses. I'm basically through with matrix sites although I do check up on this forum and matrix-sites.net forum occasionally to see what's going on. With matrix-news.net dead, I have started another project (called Reality Remix). I have also sold the matrix-news.net domain. Good luck to everybody and 'Happy Cycling'!

Thanks for being honest. Sounds cool your new "Reality Remix!" What is it going to be exactly? Just the name so far sounds good. LoL

It's basically a place for amateur DJs and such to upload their own music and have it organized in albums and rated by other users. It's also a place for discussion of all genres of electronic music (Ambient, Trance, Techno, House, etc.) I am using a portal much like this website, but it will be heavily moded with the whole song uploading/album system and other mods. Thanks for the compliment about the name. I had a hard time choosing between "Reality Remix" or "Technosis" :-)

Matrix-News admin, it great to have you here. You ran the highest-ranked (on google) matrix forum out there, and I appreciate the fact that you would come in here and address the rumors. I am also proud to have you as a frequent visitor.. That was a pretty serious admission you made there. It seems that there are some pretty big names in the business who are a little bitter with the concept and they are seeing the true culprit--- matrix-marketing structure and rogue-site owners. All I did was flush them out of their holes in the ground. Thanks for your opinion and your honesty.

I wouldn't say that I'm a frequent visitor, but yes I do visit every so often and read the posts. I registered today to post the official story, but I also plan on making some more posts here and there. I am really flattered by your post, I'm glad that I could inspire someone after all, I am just a 15 year old high school kid :) ! I do not support nor oppose your cause. I am kind of in the middle. I do not want to betray those who were loyal members to my website yet I feel bad for those that lost their money (including myself).

Matrix-News,
Would you mind sharing your story of how and why you started matrix-news.net? It can be either the short story, or the long story, but either way I'd like to hear it.

It all started back when I discovered the internet. I used to just browse around and find interesting websites. I soon wanted to create my own, but I did not know how. I signed up for one of those free website hosts (this was back when Hot Bot offered free websites) and used a template. The whole thing was very simple and absolutely no skill was needed. It was a basic 4 page website with some pictures and text. Soon I began interested in how to do more advanced things (back then links were advanced for me.) I took some lessons from a family friend in HTML and began making more advanced websites still on free servers like geocities. I got bored after a while because all of my website were way too plain. I started to play around with Photoshop and slowly learned to use it pretty well. I combined the two and got pretty nicely designed websites. None of my websites were ever succesful. I decided to learn some PHP and MySQL so I can make more dynamic websites. I purchased a book through amazon.com and realized that these two languages are very easy. Soon I began coding small scripts to do simple things. At the same time, I discovered the matrix scheme. I was looking for a PDA on eBay and found an auction selling one for $10. I read the description and it said something about selling a "method" of getting this PDA for free. I was interested, but not ready to invest $10. I looked at the users feedback and contacted those who purchased similar items from this user asking what this "method" was. Only one person responded, with a link to www.ezexpo.com. I read the details and was amazed at how simple the system is. I sent in my $50 and got on the list for the iPaq. I was somewhere around 5 gazillion places down the list and I calculated that maybe 4 years from now I'll get it. I got a refund and that was that. I became a frequent poster at the MSN Group EZ Expo (http://groups.msn.com/ezexpo/) and had an idea to somehow bring all of the matrix sites together. I started thinking of a website that would have a list of matrix sites, ability to rate them, a forum and some other features. I posted my idea and got several "go ahead"'s from the members. So I went ahead and made the website. I made one post about the website when it was finished, and soon I had hundreds of unique visits a day. This was my first succesful website. That's basically it. The end is in my first post up top.
