I joined webstars2000.com around 2 years ago, never got a penny back, when I recently queried them, they just threatend to add my e-mail address to a spam site, all I ever get from them is a constant stream of new scams, in which I can get in for all the early sign up ''advantages'',

but aren't these a lottery, and illegal under some US state laws

I think we ve had a few discusions before regarding randomizers. You might want to search for it and see what you come across. I'm sure those threads will give you a better answer than I can provide here.

A randomizer is more a ponzi scheme than a lotto, in my opinion.

#1 on list is guaranteed a payout when #2 signs up.
#1 and #2 have a 50% chance of a payout when #3 signs up.

After 3 people, 1 already had a 150% chance. 2 had a 50% chance, and 3 had a zeor chance (until the 4the person comes along).

Now, I'm not sure what the details on this site are, however, there are some other factors in randomizers that suggest they are pyramids.

1. You can see the name of the person your paying - Just refresh till you find your buddy.
2. Everybody gets their own link - So, the more you advertise their site using your refereal link the more people you get below you.
3. Some silly sites even sell weights to increase the chance of getting something.

My rule of thumb is, by the time you start seeing people advertise a site, its probably too late. Take advise from that loser. If you do enter a system, use a throw away email address. They'll probably sell your name out to anybody who will buy it anyways.

I would personally suggest that you file complaints. Nothing ever gets done unless victims take it upon themselves to notify the authorities.

I would agree with merc. The beauty of filing a complain is that you dont have to be right or wrong to complain. Leave the legal stuff to the people who know about the law. If they say there is nothing wrong with that ite, than you lost a couple bucks. But if they agree with you that its an illegial lotto, or whatever, you mgiht be able to get your money back plus help others get theirs back.

The beauty of filing a complaint is that you don't have to be right or wrong to complain? Something strikes me as very odd about that train of thought. If you are wrong, you have nothing to complain about, I would think. :)

I would say irregardless of the legality of the site itself, wouldn't there be some repercussions for the "threats" this site is making? I would definitely mention this in any complaints I made as that points to them being scammers more than anything if they are threatening you like that.

This is the owner, Maryanne and I could care less about putting anyone on a spam list. I would be a d**n fool to email someone and tell them "I will put you on a spam list" just because they complain about whatever. The reason is because A) someone who lacks reasoning and harrasses me through forums and emails to me - are absolutely useless to me.
B) Why would I send an email of such "threats" when emails are timestamped and can be used as proof. So quit believing stupid lies people spew on these forums. Geess... some do it maliciously you know. I think the administrator should wake up and delete those obvious remarks or else the forum to really watch for scammers is useless.
