How can someone who has taken steroids to improve performance only be banned for a few days? In athletics(t&f) you would get a 2 year ban. Is this the type of message the US wants to give out to its kids. Take steroids, if you get caught you won't be banned/sacked. Even Mr. Bush is still supporting him, how out of touch is that guy?

I giggle each day when I see the way that professional athletes are these days. This is just another example of the problems with the system. This guy clearly lied 6 months ago when he was interviewed, and claims 'I didn't knowingly take steroids'. I'm sorry, but if you allow trainers, or whatever they call them, to give you pills, shots, whatever, and don't ever ask the question, you're a fool.
Same things go for these NFL guys ... Even Terrell Owens, (on my favorite team the Eagles), is complaining he isn't being paid enough. Other guys, like Jevon Walker from the Packers is another example. What happened to playing the game because you liked playing the game? Its sending the wrong message when you're holding out because you don't think you are being paid enough. The NHL is another example, because of their greediness, they lost the whole season ... I remember reading interview after interview with college and high school hockey teams who were disheartended in knowing that the pro's held out because they don't get paid enough ....
Oh well, off my soap-box, its funny you posted as you did, cuz I had the same impression of the whole MLB thing .........

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, the league cannot impose different rules for steroids punishment. The reasoning is that there is an outstanding contract between the players and the league and that contract is not easily changed. When the time comes for a new contract to be drawn up, I imagine you will see a BIG change in the level of punishment for steriods use.
Rant on
(no longer the devil's advocate) I also think it is total horse-whoopy how the players and league are handling the steriods deal. Let's face it...if everyone was really serious about busting those using steriods, a third of the league would be suspended right now.
Long story short, it will take time, but eventually there will be just punishments for steriods use, as well as much better testing policies. As time goes on, more and more high-profile players will get busted. When this eventually happens, and the real suspensions start, baseball will begin changing alltogether.
Rant off.
