For those of you who are not using Google Desktop, I highly suggest you take a look at it. It caches all your PC files and your email messages. It makes finding absolutely anything in email or on your PC as simple as 1-2-3. I have been using it for months and it has saved be HUGE amounts of time when searching for info that would have been otherwise lost forever.

I use version 1.1, but the beta (2.0) version is out today. The beta version utilizes RSS, which M.W. now employs. If you want more info, check out this news story:

I dont know about this program. To me it seems like you are setting yourself up to get hacked. I mean it seems to me a program that searches as well as it would provides hackers with all your info right there.

I suppose if the hacker can get through the 4 firewalls my company has, then they deserve to get my info. :)

Is there any other testimony from those who use this Google desktop as to it's security?

Google has been around for years and is #1 on the list of Search programs. They out numbered all of the others. They are the best. If I want a phone number to a company in Ireland and don't know the name of the company I just type in the product and country. Poof! :p As long as you have programs running on your system that
protect against viruses and have a firewall your pretty safe. You need to have more than 1 program running for viruses. We have Simantec and Microsoft's spyware protection. But a firewall in the system also gives you a 3rd option to keep out the bugs. I live with Google. At work and at home. I couldn't work quickly without it. It is approved by my company. There's my testimony. :applause: The Sandster has spoken.

Agreed. I swear by anything Google. In particular, the desktop tool has saved me hundreds of hours at work. If I encounter something (or someone asks me about something), and I know I have sent emails or referenced files in the past regarding the topic, I just google my desktop and in less than a second I ALWAYS find what I want.
