This is not about a particular matrix site, but someone who was promoting the community.

The way I found out about the whole matrix world, was one day a message popped up on my computer (using the windows messenger service that is often used for direct advertising). The message directed me to the following site:

http://www.geocities.com/learjet74/1.html

Now, this guy is selling information about matrix sites, so I paid the $5.95 and he sent me a link to EZ Expo and eBanana. So I felt kind of stupid or whatever, because I could have found the info myself. However, he told me the prices were garanteed as it states on his website. Well given the law suit and all, I was not able to get his garanteed prices.

So I told him that the garantee he promised had not been met and asked for a refund. He refused, so I told him that it was my right to complain about him to the BBB, the FTC, and post information warning others on forums. So this is what I am doing, warning others. I am sure there are many other's out there who are trying to get a piece of the action by selling information about matrix sites (such as on eBay) .... others be warned .

So, this guy is using alert ads that pop up by exploiting a messenger on W2K/XP. All you have to do to stop them is go into your administrative settings and disable messenger (this has nothing to do with MSN Messenger (btw), yet all kinds of sites are selling "software" to do this for $10-$100 a pop. Attached is an example.

Here is a pop-up I received a while back. I found it in my archives. Is this the ad?

Hey Watchdog,
That was not the ad, but is similar. The ad pointed me to the guys website that I mentioned above, and said that I would be able to buy brand name electronics at really low prices with his "info."

Anyway, I am sure that ad is a similar thing.

the messenger popup ads can be stopped by enabling the windows XP firewall... but unfortunately, that prevents you from sending files over messenger.

Thanks Rae. I didn't know about that. Now, what if they use the protocol I stated above.
