View Full Version : MyDv: What About Filing CC Chargebacks?

Have any of the people affected by MyDv.co.uk just considered calling their credit-card (CC) companies and requesting a chargeback? Perhaps this has already been discussed?
When you file a chargeback, the money is credited back to your account and the charge is investigated. If the CC company investigates and finds that the charge was indeed wrong, then the chargeback will stand. Note: You always want to be 100% honest with your CC company when requesting a charge dispute, so that they can objectively investigate the charge in question.
The company whose charge was reversed (in this case, mydv) will receive a "strike" with their payment processor, which results in a penalty fee. Too many strikes, and a business loses its processor, and they can't continue operating (at least, until they find another payment company to service them).
If MyDv is indeed wrongly charging people, and not refunding them, then why haven't chargebacks become the standard response?

I'm not even going to attempt to try and get a refund from mydv, i've wasted enough time and money on phone calls to them already if the phone calls are getting diverted to the US or India or wherever then god only knows what the phone bill is going to be. I contacted my credit card company yesterday, they are going to send me a form to fill in and then they will take over trying to recoup the money from them in the form of a chargeback i suppose.

Credit card companies will allow a chargeback after 30 days, if your in the UK, this is your only protection.
It cant be very long now, before the CC companies pull the plug, they are getting so many complaints.

Good point.
And that shows that the consumers have a legitimate point here. CC companies will not issue a chargeback on groundless claims. If mydv was going to be charging all of this extra money for "currency exchange", and not processing refunds quickly, then they should state that clearly on the checkout page. Otherwise, they are really just asking for consumers to start filing chargebacks. What else would they expect?

I phoned my C.C company Lloyds tsb after my initial concerns and they immediatly blocked the payment, they just asked me to send in a letter detailing my concerns, i also printed out a few copies from the various postings on this site about mydv to back up my claim, and also the page from the daily mirror which can be found on this site.
i didnt wait for the 30 day period as i didnt know about it at the time, but all my money has been reimbursed . so good result :applause:
i hope that mydv have received some kind of financial penalty from this course of action.

I actually managed to receive my refund from mydv.co.uk today :) , it came up on my cc statement as NEPCO. This was not for the full amount, it was short by £11.46, after promises that it would be the amount I was charged.
Whilst I am relieved to get the bulk of it back, I think it is really important to ensure mydv.co.uk do not get a penny out of me. Therefore I phoned Barclaycard straight away who are issuing a credit to my account and claiming it back on my behalf. This will get me my money and ensure a black mark is put against mydv.co.uk. They did say to keep hold of any evidence in case mydv.co.uk dispute it, but that this is unlikely.
I would really urge anyone in a similar position to do the same, no matter how small the amount, then hopefully credit card companies will refuse their services and stop this happening to other people!

With regards to the phone call costs, as long as you are calling the London numbers (starting 0207) you are only paying for a UK call and NOT the onward transfer to the states. mydv or nepco are picking up that part of the call. However, if you call any of the international numbers listed on the other thread, beware, as you WILL be paying for the call to the states.

Is MyDv still collecting CC payments through the a same processor? I'm wondering if the chargebacks have hurt their standing with that processor at all, and forced them to switch.
This scenario happened with the matrix sites two years ago, and after some time, hardly any processors were willing to service them anymore.
If only MyDv would have charged correct amounts, given correct refunds, and posted statements informing their customers of adjusted charges before the fact. I suspect that chargebacks wouldn't have been filed if this was the case.

Contact your CC company, and tell them about it. They might be willing to process a chargeback for you, which usually results in you getting 100% of your money back, and your CC company does the work of getting in touch with MyDv.
If MyDv doesn't contact your CC company, then they get penalized.
This way, you aren't sitting on the phone for hours, and you can just get your money back and relax for the holiday. Credit cards give consumers purchase protection for exactly this sort of issue.
