Everybody, update everything you've got. Virus and hacker attacks are spreading like wildfire. Most of the time, whatever you get was spooled out by autosenders and free-crawling worms. However, on a direct level, the internet hack campaign is getting so bad that even Xanga is down. Here is the message from their site:

Due to continued and ongoing DDOS attacks, Xanga has now been down for over 24 hours.

This is the most concerted and determined of all the attacks we have experienced. Every time we bring the site back up, our attacker will find another avenue to renew their attack. I'm sure whoever is attacking us sees this all as a game, and is having a grand old time. I don't really get that mindset. Also, each and every one of these attacks is a felony charge.

These attacks have placed us in a classic Catch-22.

We want to share as many details as possible with our fellow Xangans
We don't want to give information that our attacker can use against us
We have chosen to break that conflict by upgrading both our hardware and our ISP. As many of you have pointed out, it is difficult to defend a Distributed Denial of Service attack. However, there are things that you can do to greatly increase your defenses - and rest assured, we are doing every one of them.

Many of you have asked for an ETA on bringing the site back up. Here's the deal - there's a chance we can get the site back up tonight, at our current ISP. If that doesn't work, then we will move the site first thing tomorrow morning and have it up by the afternoon.

We will find a way to make it up to all of you. In the meantime, our entire team is working around the clock to bring the site back up - better and stronger than ever.

Thanks for your patience,
The Xanga Team

P.S.. This new "blaster" worm is hitting windows based computers and servers like wildfire. Get the patch <HERE> (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp)

Also, remember to run a windows update, and a Norton update.

I've got an online friend that was hit with that worm.. Alot of his apps no longer work and sum keys on his keyboard arent working as well... He's been trying to get his system back to normal.

Anyone else have any problems? I had a virus hit me the other day, but the anti-virus picked it up right away. It stinks though. it takes a while to run a detailed scan.

I just got back from a buddys house fixing the msblast worm on both his computers, what a pain the first one was, the second one was easy because I learned from the first one.

His computer just kept coming up with an error and rebooting.
You have to start the computer in safe mode to keep it running and then go to msconfig and see if it's there and delete it. msblast.exe is the file your looking for. it's also in the registry, system files, and a few other places.

Once you get the computer to stay booted norton has a dowload to clear it from your computer. It gets in by a hole in Microsft, they have a patch on the microsoft website to fix the hole. A firewall and virus scan won't pick it up.

Yep, I downloaded the patch and installed it. Luckily I was running a firewall since that other mishap with a virus, I was taking no precautions, so I never got this current virus....Lucky I guess....
