The Matrixwatch Team will be perfoming software upgrades to the forum and portal software starting on April 6th and continuing until approximately April 10th. This upgrade should only cause a momentary loss of access to the forums (since we have to close them to complete the forum upgrade).
Due to the level of changes being completed, it may also cause sections of the site to look a little different at times until we get everything back to the way it needs to be (logos, news, etc). During all of that time though, the forums should be stable and running as always.
Please bear with us during this maintenance time, and as always, we appreciate your continued membership at Matrixwatch!

We have completed our first phase of upgrading the forum and portal software (and had a few bumps along the way). Our team will appreciate it if as you are surfing the site, if you find anything that is not working properly, please report it to jokach via PM, or via email at jokach@matrixwatch.org.
We are still completing some changes, but the forums/presentation should be stable moving forward.
Thanks again for your patience during this maintenance time.

We have completed our site maintenance successfully, and included a few new things:
1.SHOUTBOX - you'll see at the top of each message/forum page, a SHOUT box that allows you to do a 'shout out' to everyone else on the board at the time. This is a good way to say hi to other people on the forums or post a thought for everyone to see. We expect this feature to not be abused, and it is subject to the same rules covered by our Acceptable Use Policy (no bad language, or offensive materials).
2. We created a new forum called <a href="http://www.matrixwatch.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=94">Introductions</a> which we hope everybody will use to maybe get more acquainted with each other here at Matrixwatch. We encourage new users to post, in the hopes it helps them break the ice a little bit, but also look forward to some of the longer time users post in there as well .... please keep the forum on topic.
We have some other features which haven't been activated yet in the works, including a special-topic chat room, where we will open up at certain times to discuss certain topics of interest to Matrixwatch users and others. More information will be available on that in the near future. There are many more features up and coming, so be sure to subscribe to this "News and Updates" forum to keep up with the new features being implemented at Matrixwatch!
Thanks again for everyones patience during our maintenance time, it is always done to serve our users better. We appreciate your membership at Matrixwatch!

We've disabled the shout-box temporarily since there were several reports that it was locking up peoples PC's. It uses a technology called AJAX, which is javascript intensive, and it has been known to cause issues, depending on your PC and browser. We'll look for a fix, and if we find one, we'll enable it again ....
sorry! we tried!

Even with a fast connection the shoutbox took a few seconds to load everytime a page was opened
I have also quit using one other Java based app as it was a resource hog
I think this may be a problem with kanosis too which is java based, I have seen one report here of this happening already

I know for me it did freeze up my computer if I tried to open the my private messages in a new window. Otherwise, I was unaffected by it.
