Does anybody have anything to say about Ignite/Stream Energy and whether or not it is a scam?

This article says enough:

It is a good article, but I won't quote the whole thing here. Here is the best quotes:
But Harris County prosecutor Russel Turbeville has also done some research into Ignite.
“Flutters and swims like a duck you know,” he said. “Sounds like a pyramid, looks like a pyramid.”
The Better Business Bureau said it has revoked Stream’s membership for unresolved complaints.

Someone from my office is trying to get me into Ignite/Stream Energy. I am supposed to go to one of their lunch meetings on Friday. I've already told him no, but I'll let him buy me lunch. I'm thinking that I will tell him that if it's such hot stuff, he can front me the entry fee and I'll pay him back when I'm in profit. It is a pyramid scheme, but just like Avon, Mary Kay, Amway...whatever...they do have a product...er..should I say service? I've been in sales most of my life. I just can't sell a product or service that I don't believe in. And I'm a soft seller...not a get in your face hard line sales person.
I think you have to be just that to work for those companies. And I've seen some really excellent sales people that simply could not make it in those companies. Prepaid legal is a good example. If you are able to get just one top producer (someone willing to work night and day and is extremely aggressive) in your "downline," and you started at the beginning of the company, you will probably do well. The percentages are against you, though and you had better be there at the VERY beginning.
Oops...sorry for the long post!

Let's be careful not to lump Avon/Mary Kay into the Pyramid Scheme bucket. They are more similar to legit & legal MLMs.

Ooops...sorry! Perhaps I said that incorrectly. I guess what I was trying to say was that since they do sell a product/service, they are legit.

Hello Wisernow,
You could be one of the few that goes to these meetings with their eyes wide open.
Let us know how you get on and don't let them stiff you for the lunch bill if you don't sign up.

LOL...don't worry, Web. The guy that is trying to "recruit" me told me he would buy my lunch. I've known him for years. I know what the crowd will be like, too. I've been to these cheerleader meetings before.

I've had long-time buddies try to get me involved in MLMs before. They honestly think thought that they had hit the jackpot. I took the advantage and got them to see the truth! :)

Here's an idea. Try to talk people out of it. Then see who's better at recruiting. You and your facts, or them and their lies?

It was almost a carbon copy of the Ameriplan meetings I used to go to. Got suckered into that one! People in the top tier are supposedly making over 1M per year. No naysayers at that meeting. I asked a few questions. They had the usual "member jargon" that's a bunch of cryptic baloney until you have been to several meetings and begin to understand what they are talking about.
I did talk to someone else in my office that had become a "sales person" for them. She told me to stay away from Ignite. We went into her office and closed the door because apparently, many people in my office, including the owners, are in Ignite.
Here's the kicker: the people who own Ignite don't have a clue as to what they are doing. She got a pink notice stating that due to her continually paying late, they were going to have to review her account status. This lady has always paid her bills on time. She looked at the checks she had sent in and noticed that they had been held for 2 weeks in Ignite's office before being posted. She made copies of the checks and sent them in. It was certified mail, so they had to sign for it. She never got a reply from Ignite. They did the same thing to one of her family members. You have to pay a penalty if you get out before your contract is up. The family member decided that it was well worth it. Imagine them putting a bad comment on your credit report. They were both livid.
I have to say that it is really tempting because it is true that everyone needs electricity. There's something like over 70% of the customers still with Reliant here in TX. However, imagine getting your friends and relatives into some company that doesn't know what they are doing, has no customer service and apparently not enough staff to post payments in a timely manner.
I don't see this one lasting more than maybe another 6 mos.

I don't want to try and tell you what to do, but if i were you, I would be looking for a new job. If the owners of the company you work for are stupid enough to participate in a scam, then you have to wonder how badly they are running their company, and how many times as business owners they have been taken.

Interesting that you should say that. I'm a Realtor and I am giving my final notice tomorrow.

That is funny, so I guess it would have been good advice if you hadn't already been prepared.
