Thanks to those of you who have posted your comments regarding your experience when calling the IRS. I tried to capture these responses and add them to a section of the Consumer Movement/IRS info page (http://www.matrixwatch.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2969) right after the section that talks about calling the IRS.

Please take a minute to review the links. Let me know if there is other valuable information that could be posted.

Today, the 16th, I called the IRS National Tax Advocate Hot Line
877-777-4778

There was a substantial hold time and then I got a nice lady who actually helped me to get this problem recognized without waiting 6 months. She took my personal information and is sending a form to STA requiring them to readdress this 1099. I told her that I did not receive payment from STA in 2006 because I closed my account there and gave back to them everything in the account.

Now, after reading what others have experienced when calling IRS, I am going to try for some additional documentation. I'm sending a certified letter to STA requesting them to acknowledge that my account was closed on December 18th and telling them that I have given back to them everything in that account and that I have no income from them for 2006 as I have no access to that account and I never want access to that account. I am also going to tell them to remove my personal information from their active system as I do not want them to ever create any further tax liability to my name or number in the future.

I think I have gotten all that I can from IRS until they get a reply from STA on what they send out or until something happens from the 3949's. I sure hope they have received a pile of those. Please spread the word to people to file those 3949's.
