Why Matrix?

Anyone know why they are called matrix sites?

I'm not an expert, but some say it was because of the movie. It was a very popular name.

Possibly since in matrix movie adverts those green glowing binary digits (or whatever) fall in a straight line LMAO.. well thats my attempt to figure it out...
