View Full Version : $33 Xbox, but not matrix?

Check this out, I was checking on the matrix auction at ebay, I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3058070473&category=20387

The seller claims this is not a matrix site. Instead, you get information on where to fill out lots of forms that will take 45 minutes or so and you can get an Xbox for $33. I mean I don't know, it's something new to me. I'm going to try and see if I can get the info for free and test it out. I wouldn't be surprise if it's a scam, but I can't say unless I can prove it, and it's worth a try as long as I don't have to pay. If anyone tried it, let us know what this is all about. If not, I'm gonna see if I can find out.

Well I guess we won't find out what it's all about, cuz I just reported it to ebay after a conversation with him on msn...

He said "I do not trust you will pay me if I give you the informations." (I lied to him that I would give him the money after I identify the information is real)

and I responded "I cannot trust you that this is not a scam. The information you are selling is information only, you can make money off of that even if I don't pay. If it's a scam and I pay you the money for it, my money is gone forever and will not come back."

Then he said "Listen, you will not get any special privilege then other people"

(Note: Totally didn't respond to what I said earlier about scam)

So I said "You will not get any special privilege than other seller either"

(I didn't know what the hell I was talkin about, I just blurp it out)

So I reported him to Ebay. Looks like we won't find out what that "information" is all about.

And you reported him why? Because he would not give you something for nothing? geeezzz, I agree scams suck but you need to know it is for sure....not just on a hunch. Get a life.

hm, no, u get a life. He was already violating ebay user agreement. I was just simply trying to get the information and see if it's a scam or not, then report back. k? gg

It's most likely a scam if they sell information ONLY and not the real product. Such as XBOX for $33, Laptop $50 or some other electronic for a ridiculously low price. It doesn't make sense.

Pineapples
November 12th, 2003, 11:00 PM
I agree. Especially with our conversation. Seems like he knew it's a scam. I mean like I said, it's just information, he coulda just give it to anyone for free and still earn money outta it from from auctions. I dunno, the whole conversation made me think it's really a scam, just how I felt.

I read the ad and he used "key word spamming" so it is good you reported him.

Lancer
November 13th, 2003, 12:19 AM
If it wasnt a spam, it would make more sense for the seller not to sell the information. He should buy as many xboxs as he can for the $33 then sell the back on ebay for like 3 to 4 times the amount he bought it for. If he sells the info then other people will do the same thing and they will tap out his resource. It does not make sense.

Agree. If I were the seller, I would keep this information to myself and buy a full truckload of Xbox, and sell them on eBay for $60 plus shipping!

I'm not sure if this suspicion has any merit but awhile ago i won an auction on ebay for an xbox at a "buy it now price" of 115 dollars, which is very cheap. But there was a stipulation of having to wait 4 weeks for delivery which i though was odd but he had decent rating so i went ahead and purchased it. As promised the Xbox did come to my house 4 weeks later, but the strange part is it was deliveried to me from BEST BUY with an invoice from them with no price on it.

According to the information being sold now, its states items are shipped from major retailer and they only ship to ONE address. I'm wondering if the scheme actually does work and people are selling items with 4-5 week delivery date with retalier invoices by using the scheme. Just a though of curiosity, maybe someone can shed a light on it.

hello
November 13th, 2003, 02:00 PM
KZX2 it sounds to me like you received a refurbished Xbox. Those are Xbox's that were either display models, or had problems with them and were then fixed. Their prices are always cheaper.

spydrman
November 13th, 2003, 04:37 PM
hello,
I doubt it was a refurbished xbox if this person ordered online and had it sent directly to this person. This person could be operating a ponzi type scheme like the matrix sites. The difference is he's selling the item with a long delivery date, so he has time to sell more on ebay and buy the original xbox's. That would be my guess, I doubt that he's getting display models or refurbished from best buy, unless it was a one time deal.

KZX2,
Was the xbox in new condition and sealed from best buy?

KZX2
November 13th, 2003, 04:41 PM
By law, manufacturers are required to state on the packaging that an item has been refurbished. Packaging and terminology differs slightly with each manufacturer. Some items will arrive in a regular retail box with a sticker indicating that it has been reconditioned, refurbished, or factory serviced. Some items may be repackaged in a plain brown or white box. Enclosed manuals may refer to accessories (e.g., camera cases or straps) that are not included with the reconditioned product.

I'm positive it showed no such signs of being reburbished and Best Buy being a huge retailer, is not likely to break that law. I'm sure other EBAYer can confirm the similar situation when buying product with the stipulation of 4-6 Week delivery time of recieving invoice (with no price tag) from a retailer instead of the ebayer you bought it from.

KZX2
November 13th, 2003, 04:51 PM
Yes, i was suprised that i recieved a package from Best Buy. When i opened it, it was a brand new XBox from Best Buy with an invoice from Best Buy, but no price tag.

I was just at matrix-site.net forum arguing with someone... as usual... I find one interesting thing... What if the ebay seller is the owner of the site? Of course if that's what it is, then that would explain why he is selling the info on ebay, but also lied on the description. Hetfieldfreak said the info is worthless, cuz he found one before on a banner or a spam email. I am getting confuse.

hello
November 13th, 2003, 08:09 PM
If the Xbox was indeed brand new then it most likely is a Ponzi scheme, eventually the seller will lose money on it.

KZX2
November 13th, 2003, 08:43 PM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have done my share of research and as far as I can see on the schemes they are not capable of guaranteeing a delivery date as they can never predict the amount of buyer after me to get me top of the list within a certain time span. From what i see this seller has fullfilled all his orders. To be honest i don't care if the seller lose money as long as i got my item within the promised time span.

But to be honest, I am curious if there actually is a manufacturer promotion where they provide dirt cheap items for some forms and such. Just a curiosity.

No offense but people like you are the type that keep matrix sites alive. By now just about everyone knows that when they buy a spot that if they cycle, their cycle helpers will most likely loose money because they will not ever cycle. The cycled person doesnt care about the cycle helpers because he is getting his money. Now most of the people on the lists will never see their money again because the cycled people have their money and the owner doesnt have enough and/or doesnt want to give refunds out.

A lot of these are bought with stolen credit cards and shipped to the buyer.

I read an article on this at one of the scam sites around the net.
or they are an inside job where somebody works for a best buy warehouse and is shipping them and keeping the money.

Lancer:

If you care to read my post, it never stated that i went to a matrix site, as it clearly states it was an auction on ebay where the auction was for an actual XBOX, not "information to get an xbox"

Peterdragin:

I'm not to sure if an insider at a warehouse will ship items with invoices, which can clearly be tracked since it contains the UPC and also a fedex tracking number on it.

As far as i can tell the auction for "information to get xbox for 33 dollars" is a scam, but one has to wonder when he recieves a package from the retailer itself and not the seller. From the research i have done i don't see how it was possible to get an xbox for 115 dollars when at the time i bought it it retailed for 200+ at Best Buy itself.

I've only decide to do research on the matrix and other schemes because i was on a market to purchase a ps2 ( for final fantasy X2 / 11) and searching ebay listed alot of scam on how to get PS2 for 33 dollars from Best Buy and wondering is it was any way related to the Xbox being delivered from Best Buy

$115, about 40% discount. Well, it is not entirely unimaginable. However, I am very curious why bestbuy would participate in this kind of deal at all? KZX2, do you have any explanation of why bestbuy is willing to make this kind of deep discount?

If this is true, then we should all get a $115 PS2, why not? ..:D

Have any of you reported the seller's information to eBay to investigate. If you have received an email from this scam-seller, then be sure to also forward the full headers of the email as an inline text to eBay. I forget the email address for these reports, but I'm sure peterdragin or one of the eBay-watchdogs knows it.

Ycchen:
I'm curious as well as how this was accomplised. If i bought it from a third party who sent it to me through a large retailer then i'm guessing the third party bought it for considerbly less then the 115 to make a profit. So all i can persume is he had a method of getting the xbox for ALOT less then 115 from best buy and have it sent to my house. The theory of 40% off is not the case, considering the fact the third party must have made some kind of a profit. The only logic i can came up with is the same reason i was lead to this thread. Maybe he was able to get the Xbox for 33 Dollars and pocket 82 dollars in profit.

Watchdog:
I think your jumping the gun on situation. I don't see how the seller has committed any scam. He delivered the product for the promised price and time. The only curious part is he delivered it through a large retailer. From what i see the guy has 100% positive feedback and all his customers recieves the product. The only email i recieved from him is tracking number and recipt and was not solicited in any way. I'm being skeptical but still keeping an open mind on the fact there might be unknow promotion going on by these big retailer that most of us don't know about.

100% feedback does not mean much at all. Most scammers will hijack a good power-seller account and scam people through it. This way, the buyers don't think twice about it because of all the feedback.

Reporting the auction, email information, and auctions details to eBay will only help the situation. eBay will do a detailed investigation, and if nothing is wrong then they will drop the issue. However, if something is wrong (i.e. hijacked account, other complaints, etc.), then you will be helping eBay to crack down.

Don't ever give a possible scammer the benefit of the doubt. That is what they thrive on, and they have clever ways of getting themselves out of tough corners by means of smooth words and tricks to increase consumer confidence. By the time the customer finally gets wise to it, or mad enough to take action, the scammer is long gone.

As a side note, this is why I recommend that scammed customers of matrix sites such as AppleMatrix do not wait to file reports or lawsuits.

Give a scammer enough rope... -- You hang first...

Little update, last night I was doing some emailing to people who bought this link (but from a different seller), I also notice not many people list their "info" auction in Xbox category, so I looked into PS2. Then I found tons of them. I emailed these people who won the auction (positive and negative) and ask them for the info. One responded, Don't ask me anything, cuz I dunno anything, I haven't even read the email info yet, i have been too busy deleting the forward > thing to make the email look better and posting it on here for everyone to see. One of the big things about these auctions is that they TAKE away sales from the Matrix sites.

You Matrix owners should be out reporting these auctions so more people would sign up for your scam instead of this scam.

yup, that's exactly what it is. People just want to earn some money on selling "info" I couldnt honestly say it's a scam since I never tried it myself, but after reading the info forwarded to me and checking out the link provided, I don't think it's worth it. It's seriously a waste of time, giving your credit card is never a good thing unless you know exactly what you are purchasing, your email inbox will fill with spams, your mailbox probably will, too.

All of the links I tried for trials require your credit card. But I personally don't like giving out my cc number for trials. My advice? Save your money and buy something nice for your kids and friends and love ones instead. If you want to try it out, at least wait after Christmas when you are sure you have extra money to waste. And if you do decide to give it a try, don't expect anything in return or else you may get heart broken.

LoL, i'm glad visited this site. Always cool to find nice site where you can do research on thing schemes you find alittle fishy or offers that seems to good to be true. I'll admit i was somewhat optamistic about it, but would never jump into scheme without hours of research to confim or reject my suspicions. For the point scheme, i agree, you should never give out your Credit Card / Personal information to so many shady sites considering the rising cases of identy theft in this country.

Thanks pineapple for enlighening us with the details of the scheme.

VERY GOOD ADVISE ON THE CREDIT CARDS BEING USED!!!!

I once upon a time used a credit card to take out a service. It was a TRUSTED COMPANY and figured there would be no problems. I ordered Internet Service and after about a year decided to change services as DSL was coming available to my area. I hooked up with the DSL company and got a start up date and contacted the ISP company that I was using and got a cut off order in a time frame with the DSL hookup.

I had no problem getting disconnected from the first ISP and hooking up with the new DSL company.

The problem was disconnecting the automated payments to the first ISP. It took over a year (almost 2 years) and a lot of stop payments, emails, phone calls, and US Mail Certified letters, and finally as a last resort closing down the credit card and checking account and opening a new checking account and a new credit card.

I finally got my refund though -- three months refund for a year and a half of over billing, and I got stuck with all the stop payment fees at $17.50 for each time I stopped payment on one of the billings.

The FTC helped, and continues to help. They finned the ISP for violations, but when the fine is only $10,000 for every $1,000,000 taken in using these tactics, how can one stop over billing when it is so profitable and lose that $990,000 profit for doing nothing except collecting those automated payments.

If one can not trust AOL do you think that one can trust these other unknown Internet companies to acknowledge your discontinuance order, and stop the automated payments from being billed to your credit card or bank account?

Pineapples is right. Even if you know them don't trust them with your credit card numbers or bank account information.

I hope you didn't give out your credit card number jetaimaster. As you can see, most of those sites that require you to put in credit card number for the trial do not have SSL security, meaning it's very likely your information will be given away to hackers, third parties, and such. You should be very careful. You may think you are paying a small price on the merchandises you want, but later on you may end up losing big.

Ok heres a little info for you all.

First the site Pineapples is talking about does work, yet a little dangerous. The reason it works is a lot of the trial memberships are short, 30 minutes, a day. They make money when you forget to cancel your subscription. I received my 8000 points, but it took me a week. It takes about 5 minutes for the each trial membership to join and 15 to unjoin. As to leaving a card with them. I use prepaid atm credit cards. Put $25 on it so thats the most I can lose. It does work if not a little slow and tedious. The site makes money by referring you and your credit card. Plus the spam you get from the sites when you give them an email addy. Also you cant do it several times as these trial offers are only good once.

Second as to the $115.00 xbox. This is just simply the basic matrix site. They take money now and pay out later. They have 100's of these running on ebay. These auctions actually work better then matrix sites. One they stay under paypals radar so they dont get shut down. Two there ads cant be shut down by ebay. Three they sell 100"s of products keeping there lines moving. Most if not all are 2 person lists. Now yes they will collapse, yet by then they will have walked with the paypal account.

Congratulations on your 8000 points. Have you got anything yet? I never knew there's an option for atm credit card. I guess that's one way to go. If I remember correctly, they don't accept PO boxes, so you have to give them your real address. So here's my questions: How do you plan to keep the spam coming into your mailbox? Also, if they collapses, what will happen to the rest of the members who are still trying to earn points? These are the only two questions I have in my mind right now because you pretty much answered all my other questions.

Yes got my gifts. Yes there are several prepaid bank cards. Actually most banks now carry them or check cashing outlets. There a life saver on the internet. No po box, and actualy I dont care about junk mail. Doesnt take that much effort to throw it away. My garbage bins are next to my mailbox.

As to them collapsing I doubt it as there is no pyramid or debt. Each of the things you sign up for pay them. So they only use a portion of the money their affiliates pay them to send you gifts.
