I received this one in my email. I'm posting it here as a service to anyone else who might get the same message. Don't bother replying to it. It is a scam. One of two things will happen if you reply to these lottery scam emails:

1. You will be prompted to provide any number of the following (under the guise that they need to verify your identity):
  • Banking details
  • Driver's license details
  • Passport
  • Other personal information
Once you have provided said information, identity theft occurs.

OR

2. You will be prompted to send some amount of money (maybe a couple of hundred dollars) via western union for auxiliary fees associated with winning the prize. Once you pay, the scammer is never heard from again.

hey Merc

You already have 4 of these "You Won!" emails
as separate threads in this forum

Is this really necessary?

If I did this I would be accused of spamming

Wouldn't they be better in ONE thread?

A good point. I've been trying to decide what to do with them. The point of posting them are so they show up on google searches people might do when they get these emails. If I put them in one thread, then the detail about why it is a scam will either be contained in only one of the posts (and thus as the thread gets longer, people will only see the scam email itself, not the explanation...or I can merge them as is, so they are all in one thread, and each post has a description of why they are a scam.

The latter seems like a better option. Thoughts?

I'm all for seperate threads but with the thread Title giving a key point about each scam, and something likely to be searched on.
This one for example=Euromillions Scam e-mail.
